Why you should get your school Yearbook
77Many of us look back at high school fondly, remarking that it was perhaps the best times our lives. Many of us had a close group of friends that we shared all of our thoughts and secrets with. We bonded with our friends and stayed close to them throughout college and the rest of our lives. When we reconvened in the future, one of the most useful tools to us was our high school yearbook. Often, we would look back at it and remark about how simple and fun our lives were. If we had not been in our yearbook, we would not have this important tool available to us.
Today, a lot of high school students fail to see the importance of being in their high school yearbooks. Students offer up explanations such as "I didn't feel like purchasing it," or, "I use social networking sites, they provide more than enough pictures so that a yearbook isn't necessary for me." However, this is an extremely narrow view that fails to recognize why we purchase yearbooks. Students buy yearbooks to get a snapshot of what their lives were like in a simpler time. You can browse through the pictures and see a variety of fun pictures and events. High school yearbooks also allow you to see what events and activities you were interested in in high school. This furthers the social element of yearbooks. Looking at yourself as an extracurricular participant can allow you to see what you were like in the past. It may even cause you to rekindle an interest in an old passion you had. In addition, yearbooks encapsulate many of the pivotal high school events, such as senior prom, homecoming, or football games. Seeing yourself as a part of these activities allow you to re-identify with your high school.
Perhaps the most important reason to purchase and be in your high school yearbook is so that you will remember all of your friends during high school. As the years pass, many of us will forget who we were truly friends with in high school. High school yearbooks provide an excellent way to see who you were once friends with. Most yearbooks include a variety of group pictures throughout the book. These pictures of you and your friends smiling will inevitably brighten your day and remind you of the good times you had in high school. Another thing you can do with yearbooks is to appreciate them solely for their entertainment value. As we all know, many of the fads, especially style trends, were quite humorous in our youth. If you purchase a yearbook and have participated in it, you can poke fun at yourself back in the day. For instance, you might recollect upon how truly ridiculous those leg warmers looked in the 80's, or you might laugh at your 90's inspired wardrobe. Perhaps you had gigantic hair?? Any way you consider it, yearbooks are a great source of laughter for all of us.
Many yearbooks also have a section known as superlatives. These pages are often produced in a more stylized manner than other sections and are in color. Memorable students pose for pictures that explain an interesting relationship or accolade they developed while attending high school. For example, one picture might capture the "couple that never was a couple that should have been," while another picture might capture the sportiest boy and girl in the school. These superlatives are an extremely fun way to see who truly was memorable enough in high school to warrant a special picture in this section. Most importantly, yearbooks allow you to see how you have grown as a person. Many of us will look back at our high school pictures and compare it to the person we have become in the current moment. We will see how we have grown from a gawky high school student to a successful adult with a family of our own. At the time of your high school graduation, you will have many things going through your mind, such as the impending arrival of college and the fear of losing your friends. But do take some time and purchase a yearbook. It will allow you to remember high school for years to come.

I so agree with you. I just attended my 30-year high school reunion and eagerly referred to my yearbook to "find" people. Everybody's not on FB, you know (horrors)!
